  • GPU tier > CPU tier by 15+: CPU bottleneck. Most obvious at 1080p and in GTA Online lobbies. Fix by upgrading the CPU one tier.
  • CPU tier > GPU tier by 15+: GPU bottleneck. Universal across resolutions; worse at 4K. Only a GPU upgrade helps.
  • Within 10 points: balanced enough. Spend the money on RAM, a better monitor, or a bigger NVMe SSD instead.

  • Tier scores are benchmarked against an RTX 4090 + Core i9-14900K reference rig at 100/100.
  • GPU demand scales with resolution: 1080p × 0.75, 1440p × 0.90, 4K × 1.00 — matched to average pixel throughput in GTA V and RDR2 benchmark suites.
  • CPU demand scales with workload: Story × 0.70, Online × 1.00, Streaming × 1.15 — derived from GTA V Online lobby captures and OBS-encode overhead measurements.
  • ±7% delta is treated as 'Balanced' — smaller than driver-to-driver frame-time variance, so calling it a bottleneck is false precision.
  • FPS bands use base targets of 165 / 120 / 75 fps at 1080p / 1440p / 4K respectively, scaled by the lower of the CPU and GPU headroom ratios.
  • X3D CPUs (7800X3D, 7950X3D) receive a +10 tier bonus vs their non-X3D siblings to reflect measured RAGE-engine L3-cache gains.

Bottleneck scoring formula and calibration

Every part gets a 0–100 GTA 6 tier score benchmarked against a 4090 + 14900K. Demand scales with resolution (GPU-heavier at 4K) and workload (Online lobbies and streaming are CPU-heavier). We compute a headroom ratio for each part, and the delta becomes the bottleneck percentage. A delta under 7% is considered balanced — nothing is truly zero-bottleneck.

  • Does GTA Online use more CPU than Story Mode?

    Significantly more. Networked lobbies, dozens of AI-controlled players, and physics for every car add CPU load. Our model applies a 1.0× multiplier for Online vs 0.70× for Story — that alone can flip a balanced rig into a CPU bottleneck.

  • Will DLSS or FSR reduce my bottleneck?

    DLSS and FSR upscaling reduce the internal render resolution, so the GPU works less. That helps a GPU bottleneck but makes a CPU bottleneck worse — the CPU still processes the same physics and draw calls while the GPU renders faster.

  • How is this different from a generic PC bottleneck calculator?

    Generic calculators return one flat percentage regardless of the game or resolution. This tool models GTA 6 specifically: it scales GPU demand for 4K, adds CPU multipliers for Online lobbies and streaming, and treats X3D CPUs the way GTA's engine actually rewards them.
