Tune it by hand in five passes

You do not need the optimizer to get 90% of the way there. This is the same order our benchmark desk uses.

    Set your resolution and upscaler before anything else

    Pick native resolution first, then enable DLSS / FSR / XeSS at Quality. Upscaling changes the cost of every other setting, so tuning before it is wasted work.

    Benchmark a repeatable scene, not a random drive

    Use the same 60-second route through a dense downtown block. Frame rate in an empty swamp tells you nothing about your worst case.

  3. 3

    Cut the three expensive options first

    Ray-traced reflections, volumetrics and shadows account for most of the gap between Ultra and High. Step each down one notch and re-run the same route.

  4. 4

    Max the free options back up

    Anisotropic filtering to 16x, textures to the highest tier your VRAM supports, ambient occlusion on. These cost single-digit percentages and carry most of the visual identity.

    Judge on 1% lows, not the average

    A 90 FPS average with 38 FPS lows feels worse than a locked 70. If your 1% lows are under half your average, you are VRAM-limited or CPU-limited — not settings-limited.

The tuning questions people actually search for before launch.

  • What are the best GTA 6 settings for 1080p 60 FPS?

    On a recommended-tier GPU, start from the High preset, turn ray-traced reflections off, drop volumetrics to Medium, and keep textures and 16x anisotropic filtering maxed. That combination historically returns 25–35% more frames than Ultra in RAGE-engine titles while looking near-identical in motion at 1080p.

  • Which GTA 6 setting costs the most FPS?

    Ray-traced reflections, by a wide margin — expect an 18–30% hit. Volumetric fog and shadow quality are next at roughly 8–14% and 7–12% respectively. Everything else is in single digits until you exhaust VRAM.

  • Should I use DLSS, FSR or XeSS in GTA 6?

    Use whichever your GPU supports natively: DLSS on RTX cards, FSR on Radeon, XeSS on Arc. At 1440p and 4K, Quality mode typically buys 30–45% more frames with a very small image-quality cost. At 1080p the upscaler has fewer pixels to work with, so prefer native plus a settings cut.

  • Is frame generation worth turning on?

    Only if your base frame rate is already above roughly 50 FPS. Frame generation multiplies smoothness but not responsiveness — enabling it at 30 FPS gives you a 60 FPS counter with 30 FPS input latency, which feels worse in a driving game than the lower number.

  • Do higher textures reduce FPS in GTA 6?

    Not directly. Texture quality is nearly free on average frame rate right up until you exceed your card's VRAM. Past that point the driver swaps textures over PCIe and your 1% lows collapse into visible stutter, which is why the VRAM calculator matters more than the settings menu here.

  • Are these settings recommendations final?

    No. Until Rockstar ships the PC build and its graphics menu, every figure on this page is modelled from RDR2 and GTA V PC, which share the RAGE engine and most of the same option names. We re-benchmark and republish within 48 hours of the PC release.
