Frequently asked questions
Short answers to the questions people actually search for.
How long will GTA 6 take to download?
On a 100 Mbps connection with realistic 80% efficiency, a 165 GB base install plus 15 GB day-one patch finishes in roughly 3–4 hours. On a 1 Gbps gigabit line it drops to under 30 minutes; on a 25 Mbps DSL line it stretches past 14 hours.
How big is GTA 6 on PC?
Rockstar has not published the final install size, but the studio's recent releases (RDR2 at 150 GB, GTA V Enhanced at 105 GB) plus higher-fidelity texture packs put the community estimate at roughly 150–200 GB before the day-one patch. This tool defaults to 165 GB and lets you dial it up.
Why does my ISP speed not match the download?
Real-world downloads are gated by CDN throttling, TCP overhead, Wi-Fi loss, and disk write speed. Steam and Rockstar CDNs typically deliver 70–85% of your ISP number. The efficiency slider models this — 80% is the realistic default.
When does GTA 6 pre-load start?
Rockstar's recent pattern (GTA V Enhanced, RDR2) is a 48-hour pre-load window on console and 24–48 hours on PC. If you're on anything under 100 Mbps, start the pre-load the moment it opens or you'll miss launch night.
Is a 5G home-internet plan fast enough for GTA 6?
T-Mobile and Verizon 5G home plans typically deliver 100–300 Mbps sustained, which finishes GTA 6 in 1–3 hours. Latency isn't relevant for downloads; congestion during evening peak is — start the pre-load in the early hours if you can.
How much data will the download use against my cap?
Your total pull equals base install + day-one patch. On a Comcast 1.2 TB monthly cap, a 180 GB GTA 6 download uses about 15% of the month — plan accordingly if you have other streaming and updates queued.
Does an SSD affect download speed?
Not the download itself — that's network-bound. But installing / unpacking to an HDD is measurably slower than to an NVMe SSD because Rockstar's installer writes and verifies as it goes. Expect a 10–20% total time penalty on HDDs.
Will I finish downloading in time for launch?
Enter your speed and hit the connection preset that matches. If the estimated finish is longer than Rockstar's pre-load window (typically 24–48h before launch), start earlier — pause other downloads and hardwire your PC.
