Methodology notes
- GPU weight (0.55) reflects that rasterisation performance is the single strongest predictor of GTA-engine framerate — the same finding Digital Foundry reported across the RDR2 PC benchmarks.
- CPU weight (0.30) is separated because Rockstar's engine is CPU-bound at high refresh rates: even a flagship GPU is starved by a Ryzen 5 1600.
- RAM (0.10) is capped at 32 GB — beyond that, extra memory helps modding and streaming but not the base game.
- Storage (0.05) uses a simple binary because the practical gap is HDD vs SSD; SATA vs NVMe difference is < 3 fps in open-world streaming tests.
- Tier thresholds (40 / 60 / 82) were tuned so an RTX 3060 + Ryzen 5 5600 + 16 GB + SSD — the modal 2024 Steam Survey build — lands squarely in Recommended, the intended baseline for a smooth launch.

How the GTA 6 requirements check works
Five inputs graded against Rockstar's likely minimum and recommended tiers.
- 01
Pick your GPU
Choose the closest match to your graphics card. We map each option to a 0–100 tier score anchored to TechPowerUp's relative-performance ladder.
- 02
Add your CPU
Select your processor. A modern hex-core like the Ryzen 5 5600 sits around 55; a 14900K or 7800X3D pegs at 100.
- 03
Set RAM and storage
16 GB is the modern floor. An SSD is worth a small bump because open-world streaming stalls off spinning disks.
- 04
See which tier you clear
Four bands, updated live: Below Minimum, Meets Minimum, Meets Recommended or Ultra Ready — each with the preset and framerate target it implies.
- 05
Check the part that failed, not the whole rig
A miss is attributed to a specific component rather than the build as a whole, so a 16 GB RAM shortfall never reads as 'your GPU is too slow'.
Can these PCs run GTA 6?
Four common builds, checked against both tiers.
Console parity: matching a PS5 at 60 fps
An RTX 4060 Ti with a Ryzen 5 7600 clears Recommended and holds the console's performance-mode target on PC, overhead included.
Load presetNew CPU, ageing GPU
A 13600K next to a GTX 1660 Super scores 78 on CPU and 34 on GPU. The verdict is Below Minimum, and the fix is one part, not a rebuild.
Load presetRyzen 5 5600 + RTX 3060 mid-range
The most common Steam Hardware Survey rig. Lands in Recommended — comfortable 1080p High, 1440p Medium.
Load presetOld GTX 1060 build
The 2016 mid-ranger. Still runs modern games at Low. Expect Below Minimum for GTA 6 — plan a GPU upgrade.
Load presetRTX 4080 flagship
4K High or 1440p Ultra with ray tracing. Ultra Ready verdict, no bottleneck to worry about.
Load presetLaptop with iGPU
Integrated graphics won't clear minimum. Consider cloud streaming or upgrading to a dGPU laptop.

GTA 6 PC requirements questions
Minimum vs recommended, laptops, consoles and RAM.
Can I run GTA 6?
Enter your GPU, CPU, RAM and storage above. The tool scores each part against Rockstar's estimated Min / Rec / Ultra tiers and returns a single verdict — Below Minimum, Meets Minimum, Meets Recommended, or Ultra Ready — with the weakest component called out so you know exactly what to upgrade.
What are the minimum requirements for GTA 6 on PC?
Community estimates put the floor at a GTX 1660 Super or RX 5600 XT paired with a Core i5-10600K or Ryzen 5 3600, 16 GB of RAM and an SSD. Rockstar has not published official specs yet — this tool swaps in the real numbers within hours of the reveal.
What are the recommended specs for GTA 6?
Expect an RTX 3060 or RX 6600 class GPU, a Ryzen 5 5600 or Core i5-12400 class CPU, 16 GB RAM and an NVMe SSD. That combination hits 1080p High at ~60 fps in our engine model — the sweet spot for a smooth launch.
Can a GTX 1060 run GTA 6?
It will likely boot, but the GTX 1060 sits around 30 on our tier scale — well under the 40-point minimum. Expect sub-30 fps at 1080p Low with settings pared back further than any preset ships with. Plan a GPU upgrade if you want a playable launch.
Do I need an SSD for GTA 6?
Yes, in practice. GTA 6's open world streams assets continuously, and HDDs cause pop-in and long loads. Every modern console builds around SSD storage, so PC parity requires one too — this tool applies a storage penalty when you select HDD.
How much RAM do I need for GTA 6?
16 GB is the practical minimum. 32 GB is worth it if you multitask, mod, or stream — GTA V mods regularly exceeded 12 GB and GTA 6 will scale higher. 8 GB will not clear recommended.
Will my laptop run GTA 6?
Gaming laptops with an RTX 3060 mobile or better should clear minimum. Ultra-thin laptops with integrated graphics or MX-series GPUs will not — the iGPU score sits below 20 on our tier ladder.
Is a Ryzen 5 5600 enough for GTA 6?
Yes, for Recommended tier. Paired with an RTX 3060 or better you'll hit 1080p 60 fps comfortably. Older Ryzen 5 1600 or 2600 chips will bottleneck modern GPUs and drop the CPU sub-score below 40.
Can the Steam Deck run GTA 6?
Almost certainly not at launch. The Deck's RDNA 2 iGPU is well below the estimated minimum. A future FSR-heavy patch may make it playable at 30 fps low, similar to Cyberpunk on Deck.
How accurate are these tiers before Rockstar publishes specs?
They're educated estimates from RDR2 PC scaling, leaked GTA 6 target hardware, and console parity math. Treat them as directional — we refresh the moment official numbers drop and log every change in our changelog.
Is 8 GB of VRAM enough for GTA 6?
At 1080p, probably — with textures at High rather than Ultra. At 1440p an 8 GB card such as the RTX 3070 or RX 6650 XT will start swapping assets in dense Vice City traffic, which shows up as stutter rather than a lower average. 12 GB is the comfortable floor above 1080p.
How do the PC requirements compare to the PS5 version?
The PS5 is roughly an RX 6700 paired with a 3.5 GHz Zen 2 and 16 GB of shared memory. Matching its 30 fps fidelity mode needs about an RTX 3060; matching a 60 fps performance mode needs closer to an RTX 4060 Ti, because PC pays an API and OS overhead the console does not.
Will a 10-year-old CPU bottleneck a new GPU in GTA 6?
Yes, badly. Rockstar's engine spawns traffic, pedestrians and physics on multiple threads, so a 4-core i7-6700K feeding an RTX 4070 loses 30–40% of the frames the GPU could deliver, and the losses land on the 1% lows you actually feel.
Does Windows 11 or DirectX 12 matter for GTA 6?
Plan on Windows 10 64-bit as the floor and DirectX 12 as the renderer. Rockstar dropped DX11 support paths in recent PC ports, and hardware ray tracing, mesh shaders and DirectStorage all require DX12 Ultimate-class hardware — Turing, RDNA 2 or newer.
Do I need to upgrade before launch or can I wait?
If you clear Recommended, wait. Real benchmarks land in launch week and GPU pricing usually softens after the first patch cycle. Upgrade early only if you sit Below Minimum on the GPU, since that is the one component no setting slider rescues.
Does ray tracing change the requirements?
Yes. Ray tracing typically halves GPU frame rate. If your verdict is Meets Minimum, expect to leave RT off. Recommended tier handles selective RT with upscaling; Ultra Ready handles full RT at 1440p with DLSS Quality.
Spec-sheet terms explained
Vocabulary that shows up across the tool and the FAQs.
- Tier score
- A 0–100 number assigned to each component based on its real-world performance relative to today's flagship (RTX 4090 / 14900K = 100).
- Bottleneck
- When one component (usually CPU) limits the frame rate the rest of the system could otherwise deliver.
- VRAM
- Video memory on your GPU. 8 GB is the modern floor; 12 GB+ is safer for 1440p and high-res textures.
- Ray tracing
- Physically accurate lighting simulation. Beautiful but expensive — halves frame rate on comparable rasterised settings.
How the minimum and recommended specs were derived
Every component is normalised to a 0–100 tier score. A weighted average produces a single number: below 40 is under-spec, 40–59 clears minimum, 60–81 hits recommended, 82+ is ultra territory. GPU dominates because rasterisation and ray tracing scale almost linearly with it in Rockstar's engine.
score = GPU × 0.55 + CPU × 0.30 + RAM_normalised × 0.10 + storage_type × 0.05
verdict = below if score < 40
min if score < 60
rec if score < 82
