Methodology notes

  • GPU/CPU scores use the same 0–100 scale as the bottleneck calculator; RTX 4090 = 100, i9-14900K / Ryzen 7 7800X3D = 100.
  • BASE_FPS at 1440p High for a score-100 GPU + score-100 CPU is 102 fps — anchored to measured RDR2 4090 numbers and adjusted for GTA 6's denser Vice City streaming.
  • Preset multipliers (Low ×1.55, Medium ×1.25, High 1.00, Very High ×0.82, Ultra ×0.68) match Cyberpunk 2077 and RDR2 preset-scaling curves.
  • Upscaler multipliers are the gain over native at matched target resolution (DLSS-Q ×1.30, DLSS-B ×1.50, DLSS-P ×1.75, FSR-Q ×1.28, XeSS-Q ×1.25).
  • Frame generation multiplies avg by 1.7× (DLSS 3) or 1.6× (FSR 3); 1% lows are left unchanged because interpolated frames don't reduce real frame-time variance.
  • VRAM shortage triggers a 25% avg FPS penalty and a 50% 1% low penalty — the driver spillover behaviour measured in Cyberpunk 2077 at over-budget VRAM configurations.

How GTA 6 FPS is estimated for your GPU and CPU

    Pick your GPU + CPU

    Choose from the same 200+ card catalog as the bottleneck calculator. Scores are normalised so RTX 4090 = 100 and i9-14900K / Ryzen 7 7800X3D = 100. We compute a GPU-bound FPS and a CPU cap separately, then take the minimum.

  2. 02

    Set resolution and preset

    1080p, 1440p, ultrawide 1440p or 4K, and Low → Ultra. Preset scales GPU load; resolution scales it further. CPU cap softens as resolution rises (CPU-bound at 1080p is normal, CPU-bound at 4K is rare).

  3. 03

    Layer an upscaler

    DLSS, FSR or XeSS shrinks the internal render resolution for a 1.25× to 1.75× GPU-side speedup. Quality mode costs the least image fidelity; Performance mode buys the most frames.

  4. 04

    Add frame generation, if your card has it

    DLSS 3 and FSR 3 insert a generated frame between two real ones, multiplying average fps by roughly 1.7×. Crucially it leaves 1% lows — and input latency — untouched, so we never let it move the low figure.

  5. 05

    Check the 1% low and the limiter before the average

    You get avg fps with a ±15% band, an honest 1% low, the limiter (GPU, CPU, VRAM or balanced) and a pass/fail against 30, 60, 120 and 144 fps. Short on VRAM and a stutter penalty is applied and named.

  • What FPS will I get in GTA 6?

    It depends on GPU, CPU, resolution and preset. As a rough ladder: at 1440p High on 2026 mid-range hardware (RTX 4070 / RX 7800 XT, mid-tier Ryzen 5 or Core i5), expect 80–100 fps native. 1080p High gives roughly 130 fps on the same build. 4K Ultra drops to 45–60 fps native, 90–120 fps with DLSS Quality + Frame Gen.   • Can I run GTA 6 at 60 fps?

    Yes on almost any 2020-and-newer discrete GPU at 1080p. At 1080p Medium, an RTX 3060 / RX 6600 clears 60 fps comfortably. At 1440p High you'll need an RTX 4060 Ti / RX 7700 XT or better. At 4K Ultra, 60 fps native is a 4080 / 7900 XT class conversation without upscaling.

  • Can I run GTA 6 at 120 fps?

    At 1080p on a modern flagship (4090, 7900 XTX, 5080+) — yes, natively. At 1440p, 120 fps needs a 4080 / 7900 XT paired with DLSS Quality. At 4K, 120 fps typically requires DLSS Balanced + Frame Generation on a 4090-class card.

  • How much does DLSS boost GTA 6 FPS?

    DLSS Quality typically adds 25–35% FPS by rendering internally at 67% resolution. DLSS Balanced adds 45–55% (rendering at ~58%). DLSS Performance adds 65–80% (rendering at 50%). These are GPU-side multipliers only — a CPU-bound scene won't benefit as much because the CPU cap is unaffected.

  • Does frame generation actually feel like double FPS?

    Not exactly. DLSS 3 / FSR 3 Frame Gen inserts a synthetic frame between real ones, so avg FPS roughly ×1.7. Motion feels smoother, but input latency is tied to the underlying real FPS. 1% lows don't improve. Use FG when your real FPS is already 50+ — below that, latency feels sluggish.

  • What is a 1% low and why does it matter?

    The 1% low is the average of the slowest 1% of frames — the number that captures the felt stutter. A game at 100 fps avg / 80 fps 1% low feels smooth; 100 fps avg / 45 fps 1% low feels stuttery. VRAM shortage and CPU bottlenecks tank 1% lows first. This calculator reports both so you can spot the difference.

  • How much FPS does GTA 6 need? What's a good target?

    60 fps is the baseline for a modern action game. 90 fps or 120 fps is the sweet spot for smooth camera panning on OLED / high-refresh monitors. 144 fps at 1440p is realistic on RTX 4070+ class with DLSS. GTA 6 doesn't require a specific FPS — pick a target your monitor supports and match hardware to it.

  • Is RTX 4060 enough for GTA 6?

    Yes at 1080p. Estimated 60–75 fps at 1080p High native, 90+ with DLSS Quality. Not enough for 1440p Ultra — the 8 GB VRAM triggers a stutter penalty at Ultra + HD textures. For 1440p target, the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB or RTX 4070 is the safer buy.

  • Is RTX 3080 still good for GTA 6?

    Yes at 1440p. Estimated 75–90 fps at 1440p High native, 100+ with DLSS Quality. The 10 GB VRAM is adequate but not comfortable — you'll be Adequate at 1440p Very High, Tight at 1440p Ultra + HD textures. Drop textures a notch to sidestep it.

  • Is FSR 3 as good as DLSS 3?

    For upscaling, FSR 3 Quality is within 5% of DLSS Quality on avg FPS gain (measured on Cyberpunk 2077 and Alan Wake 2). Image quality lags DLSS slightly, especially in motion. FSR 3 Frame Generation applies the same ~1.7× multiplier as DLSS 3 FG but runs on non-RTX cards — that's its real advantage.

  • Will 16 GB of RAM be enough for GTA 6?

    Yes — 16 GB is the calculator's baseline. Below 16 GB the model applies an 18% avg FPS penalty and a 40% 1% low penalty, because Windows plus GTA 6 will hit the pagefile and cause streaming stalls. Going to 32 GB buys headroom for streaming, Discord and a browser open.

  • Why is my CPU limiting GTA Online more than story mode?

    GTA Online's 30-player lobbies and physics simulation are CPU-bound. This calculator doesn't split by mode — assume 10–15% lower FPS in busy lobbies on the same hardware, and rougher 1% lows. The bottleneck calculator does split by workload if you want a per-mode read.

  • How accurate is this FPS calculator before GTA 6 launches?

    Treat every number as a range, not a reading. The uncertainty band is ±15% versus launch-day drivers. Base FPS values are calibrated from RDR2 (same RAGE engine) and Cyberpunk 2077 (heavy open-world). Upscaler multipliers come from measured Cyberpunk / Alan Wake 2 data. We refresh values within hours of Rockstar's official spec drop.

  • Should I turn on ray tracing for FPS?

    No — ray tracing costs FPS. This calculator doesn't include an RT toggle because RT overhead varies wildly per implementation (reflections only vs full path tracing). If Rockstar ships path tracing at launch, expect 30–50% lower avg FPS with it on. Use the VRAM calculator for RT VRAM overhead.

Inside the frame-rate model

GPU-bound FPS = (gpu.score / 100) × BASE_FPS[res] × PRESET_MULT[preset] × UPSCALER_MULT. CPU cap = (cpu.score / 100) × CPU_CAP_100[res]. Effective FPS = min(GPU-bound, CPU cap), reduced by a RAM penalty below 16 GB, further reduced by a VRAM stutter penalty when total needed exceeds the card. Frame generation multiplies avg only. 1% low = avg × 0.72 baseline, tightened when CPU-bound.

Avg FPS
Mean frames per second across a benchmark run. The headline number, but it can hide stutter.
1% low
Average of the slowest 1% of frames. Captures felt stutter — a low 1% low means uneven pacing even when avg looks fine.
GPU-bound
GPU can't keep up with the CPU. Lowering resolution or preset lifts FPS. Typical at 1440p+ or high presets.
CPU-bound
CPU can't feed the GPU frames fast enough. Lowering resolution won't help. Typical at 1080p on strong GPUs.
Upscaler
DLSS, FSR or XeSS render internally at a lower resolution, then AI-upscale. Big FPS gain, minor image cost.
Frame generation
DLSS 3 / FSR 3 FG inserts a synthetic frame between real ones. Motion feels smoother; input latency and 1% lows are unchanged.
